CBLA Changes Name to PILA

CAROLINA BEACH  NC (20-Jan-08)  Carolina Beach Lifeguard Association, originally formed in 1998 and reorganized in 2005 has been renamed.  The Board of Directors who govern all actions of this association voted unanimously in their January 2008 board meeting to change the name from Carolina Beach Lifeguard Association to Pleasure Island Lifeguard Association.

Although, the association has financially supported all lifeguards from Carolina & Kure Beach the name change is to better incorporate both Ocean Rescue groups.  Each year lifeguards are hired respectively by the Town of Kure Beach and Carolina Beach to watch the waters and protect the citizens, tourist and visitors of Pleasure Island and they deserve to be recognized and supported as part of the Public Safety Team of Professionals.

Pleasure Island Lifeguard Association will continue the mission to provide the lifeguards of Pleasure Island and other ocean-beach rescue professionals in contiguous communities, as well as their affiliates, associates, and advocates with financial, physical, practical, and moral support in their states endeavor to help serve, protect and educate the general public, citizens, visitors, and tourists of Pleasure Island in all aspects of beach and ocean safety.

SALA Regional Competition to be Held in on Pleasure Island

CAROLINA BEACH  NC (1-Feb-08)  Each year lifeguards from Carolina & Kure Beach travel to participate in the South Atlantic Regional Lifeguard Competition.  Historically, the competition locations have varied from Virginia Beach, VA to Daytona Beach, FL.  In 2007, by request of former Ocean Rescue Director Charles Smith, the South Atlantic Lifeguard Association was requested to be hold the competition on Pleasure Island in 2008; that request was granted.

In July lifeguards from the East Coast will converge on Pleasure Island to demonstrate their abilities in the water while competing against other professional lifeguards in swimming events and events that simulate rescue activities and procedures.
