Lifeguards to serve for the 2008 Season. If you are

CBLA Changes
Name to PILA CAROLINA BEACH
NC (20-Jan-08) Carolina Beach
Lifeguard Association, originally formed in 1998 and reorganized
in 2005 has been renamed. The Board of Directors who
govern all actions of this association voted unanimously in
their January 2008 board meeting to change the name from
Carolina Beach Lifeguard Association to Pleasure Island
Lifeguard Association.
Although, the association has financially
supported all lifeguards from Carolina & Kure Beach the name
change is to better incorporate both Ocean Rescue groups.
Each year lifeguards are hired respectively by the Town of Kure
Beach and Carolina Beach to watch the waters and protect the
citizens, tourist and visitors of Pleasure Island and they
deserve to be recognized and supported as part of the Public
Safety Team of Professionals.
Pleasure Island Lifeguard Association will
continue the mission to provide the lifeguards of Pleasure
Island and other ocean-beach rescue professionals in contiguous
communities, as well as their affiliates, associates, and
advocates with financial, physical, practical, and moral support
in their states endeavor to help serve, protect and educate the
general public, citizens, visitors, and tourists of Pleasure
Island in all aspects of beach and ocean safety. |

SALA Regional Competition to be Held in on
Pleasure Island CAROLINA BEACH NC
(1-Feb-08) Each year lifeguards
from Carolina & Kure Beach travel to participate in the South
Atlantic Regional Lifeguard Competition. Historically, the
competition locations have varied from Virginia Beach, VA to
Daytona Beach, FL. In 2007, by request of former Ocean
Rescue Director Charles Smith, the South Atlantic Lifeguard
Association was requested to be hold the competition on Pleasure
Island in 2008; that request was granted.
In July lifeguards from the East Coast
will converge on Pleasure Island to
demonstrate their abilities in the
water while competing against other professional lifeguards in
swimming events and events that simulate rescue activities and
procedures.
For the first time in the history of New
Hanover County you can be a spectator of this exciting and
rewarding event our local lifeguards participate in each year.
